Automatic Cat Feeder

Start with the food and feeding plan your cat already needs. Then check what the exact feeder measures, how it handles power or network loss, and whether your cat can use it reliably. A feeder is equipment, not a substitute for a caregiver or veterinary feeding advice.

Choose the function

NeedCheck
Scheduled dry foodCompatible food dimensions, dispensing unit and schedule
Wet-food accessFood and device storage instructions and cleaning
Selective accessRegistered chip/tag compatibility and access behaviour
Remote monitoringNetwork, app, hub and power requirements

Compare timed feeders, wet-food feeders and microchip feeders by their actual function. Selective access is not necessarily timed dispensing.

Portion labels are model-specific

Ask how the device defines a portion and what food was used for any stated weight. Check dispensed output with your actual food according to the manual, and keep the veterinary feeding target separate from the machine’s settings. Do not assume every feeder measures by volume or that every portion has a fixed gram weight.

Use the portion verification checklist. If available settings cannot deliver the prescribed plan, ask your veterinarian or the manufacturer about an appropriate setup rather than silently rounding the target.

Food and power example

The PETLIBRO PLAF103 support page lists dry-food requirements and describes emergency battery operation: scheduled meals continue while certain features, including Wi-Fi, are disabled. This is one model’s documentation, not a guarantee about other feeders or every outage.

Check the exact manual, battery type, maintenance and recovery behaviour. An app notification is not proof that the cat ate.

Selective access example

The SureFeed comparison distinguishes its standard and connected products; the connected model requires a hub. Confirm the exact chip/tag and included equipment, and observe each cat using the feeder. Do not infer compatibility from the word microchip alone.

Wet food needs a storage plan

A timer, lid or ice pack does not by itself establish a safe holding duration. Follow the food maker and exact device instructions together. The FDA pet-food storage guidance recommends promptly refrigerating or discarding unused canned/pouched food and cleaning feeding utensils. See the wet-food checklist before buying.

Check maintenance and ongoing cost

  1. Record compatible food and its preparation/storage requirements.
  2. Record washable parts and which components must stay dry.
  3. Check batteries, refills, replacement bowls, hubs and any stated ongoing charges.
  4. Keep food lot and expiry information when filling a hopper.
  5. Observe successful access and eating; arrange human care and a backup feeding plan.

A separate water fountain also requires its own cleaning and monitoring; it does not remove the need to check water availability.

Before ordering

Compare delivered price, included accessories, returns and support for the exact variant. We have not tested these feeders and cannot promise dispensing accuracy, food safety or unattended care from a listing alone.

Frequently asked questions

Does one portion always mean the same number of grams?

No. Check the exact feeder definition and measured output with your actual food.

Does battery backup preserve all features?

No. Read that model’s battery-mode limits and maintenance instructions.

Is a microchip feeder always a timed dispenser?

No. Selective access and scheduled dispensing are different functions.

Does an ice pack guarantee wet-food safety all day?

No. Use the food and device instructions; do not infer a safe duration from the presence of cooling.

Can the feeder replace a caregiver?

No. Arrange human checks and a backup plan appropriate to your cat’s needs.

Does this site test feeders?

No. We provide a specification checklist with manufacturer sources and do not claim hands-on tests.
